Guest Designer Lanette Lepper and A Card A Day in the Month of May

This weekend, as we remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and our freedom, I thought it would be appropriate to make a military-themed card.

As soon as I saw the sketch for this week, I knew I had to flip it and use the Psalm 139 stamp from the "Anchor to the Soul" set.  This verse is terribly meaningful to me, because it was read at our wedding... very fitting for a Navy bride who knew she'd be settling on the far side of MANY a sea!  I have used this stamp over and over and over again.  Together with the anchor image, it makes a perfect card for all of the 'farewells' we find ourselves saying.

As you can see, I flipped the Sketch around so it looked like this:

Other than that, it's a pretty simple card, which is good, because I made multiples to have on hand!  I added a ribbon to some of them for a more feminine touch.  I think I like those even better:

I played around and made a couple of other cards with the same set and sketch.  I don't like them nearly as much, but I thought I'd share them, anyway!

I accidentally got a smudge on this one... so that explains why I did the sky in grey.  Had to cover it up somehow!  (I liked it better before the smudge!)  It's hard to tell from the photo, but the verse on this next one is popped.  It gives some dimension, but I personally think it's a little busy for my tastes.

This week, the movers arrive to pack up our stuff for yet another move to another sea (er, is Lake Michigan considered a sea?  May be not.  But we're headed back to the Atlantic, which suits this east coast girl just fine!)  They are NOT allowed to touch my Copics and most of my other stamping supplies.  Those I will be transporting myself, much to my husband's chagrin!  We'll be spending the next 6-8 weeks in a hotel room, so here's hoping I'll finally be able to try my hand at some of the other great sketches we've seen this month!

  4. Awesome cards! I recognize those medals too. My dad was awarded them too. I especially remember the ceremony where he was pinned the Navy Achievement Medal (far right). My Grandpa was invited and flown in from Iowa and was crying the whole time through it...He was so proud.

  6. What a wonderful photo set up to highlight your great cards. Love how you flipped the sketch - all of them are terrific.
Have a super move - we're retired Army so that's behind us. But I had to go to your base when I first joined the Army and was shipping overseas to Korea. They fixed my pay problem! :)
