#285 Black & White with a POP of Color | Vera Lane Studio

Thursday, May 11, 2017

That's our theme on Vera Lane this week ~ 'Black & White with a POP of color'.  Immediately I think of black, white and PINK ... my most favorite combination.  I picked out my papers and glued everything into my journal ... BIG SIGH!  That was the easy part.
I had a plan for these images ... and then trashed it.  I'm sure you've done that before, right?!  I didn't want to use any gray scale ... I wanted to stick with black, white and my POP of PINK.  That's where things got challenging.
But first ... here is the FABULOUS set I used in this layout ... Cherry Street.  I LOVE this collection from Vera Lane Studio and look forward to adding some color to it soon ... that's another blog post tho.
So back to my dilemma ... how the heck was I going to color these things?  I pulled out all of my black and white washi tapes ... and stole borrowed Sophie's heart washi. I started 'coloring' with my washi's and with my black markers.

After I decapitated a flower (fussy cutting images) that was popping out of a chimney I made the executive decision to mow down all of the flowers.  Just for this project.
This layout.  I was determined that I wasn't going to lay this out the way I typically would.  {Even though the paper layout is completely typical of me.}  Why the heck do I keep giving myself all of these 'rules' I have to stay within?  LOL!  I did it though!  And I'm calling this layout done!
So ... there you have it.  Black and white with a POP of PINK.  And I just realized ... it's NOT done!  I forgot to add the Post # and the date.  I will be doing that momentarily.  God bless me ... it's been kinda' busy this week!

Now ... on to Artist Trading Cards - known as ATC's.  We have a monthly ATC Swap in our Vera Lane Facebook Group.  The theme is the same ... black & white with a pop of color.  I ended up using the images I was going to use on the layout above.  LOL!
I didn't give myself a 'gray scale' rule for these cards.  It's so much easier when you utilize grays with your blacks!  {smiles}

For these two cards I used Glinda from The Good One.  I had both images printed a bit large so I cropped her down to fit the ATC size.  {it's okay ... it didn't hurt her!}
TIP:  Mix and match your sets!  I use this brick road in this set quite often for other projects.
Just look at my happy little Glinda.  You would never know that I don't like The Wizard of Oz. Yes, I live in Kansas.  No, it's not my favorite movie.  It wasn't until I took my daughter to see Wicked that I fell in LOVE ... with Elphaba!  And Wicked.  I'm still not an Oz fan but I LOVE Wicked ... best show EVER!  Ok ... sorry!
Well, things aren't all about Oz.  This ATC is all about Raven and Pixie.  My freaky, weird little friends ... that I adore.  Oh how they have grown on me!

I think I need to add some embellies to my ATC's and then they really will be done.  I was thinking about fixing my boys supper and forgot about embellies ... what the heck, right!  For the record ... every now and then I do feed the boys ... Sophie is playing it safe and eating out. {smiles}
It's a fun month on Vera Lane so I hope you'll swing my and join us.  We have the absolute best design team ever and they are SO inspiring!  I know you'd be inspired by their weekly projects ... check us out.

xoxo,
Mischelle
